The Body ID plate coding for the manufacturing plant follows the Body Number. All but the original 48 model series cars manufactured at Woodville have a plant code here. The first Body ID plates to include a code were the Pagewood manufactured bodies from late in 1952, however the plant code precedes the Body Number here.
The Vehicle Serial Number (Chassis Number) coding follows the serial number portion. The full Vehicle Serial Number comprises the model series, serial number and assembly plant code (codes for HD through HT).
The PSN code begins the Production Serial Number (Plant Sequence Number).
The VIN assembly plant code incorporates the first digit of the Production Sequence Number.
Difficulty in working things out?
Maybe your Holden is a special build vehicle and does not fit the regular production process. From time to time, Holden produced vehicles for specific purposes. In some of these instances, ID plates were removed from the vehicle and replaced with other plates detailing the special purpose of the vehicle. In other cases, the vehicle may have only one form of identification. carhunter@holdenhistoricalservices.com.au
Still Stuck?
Perhaps it is not possible to fully identify your Holden due to some or all of the factory identification having been removed and not replaced on the vehicle. Your Holden may have been the result of an insurance stolen/recovered claim sometime in the past. In many cases all is not lost, as it is often possible to use the remaining identification in order to retrieve the all-important particulars needed to determine the history of your Holden. A charge schedule applies for this additional service, however success cannot always be guaranteed… carhunter@holdenhistoricalservices.com.au
